EFRO - Rovaniemi

Rovaniemi is located just on the border on Arctic Circle. It's also the home town of Santa Claus himself, and also the winner of 2006 Eurovision Song Contest - Lordi - comes from Rovaniemi. Rovaniemi can be called as the 'gateway to Lapland'. The Rovaniemi airport is located 10 km from the city center and is the busiest airport in northern Finland. It is also the base of Lapland Air Command air force unit.

During Christmas Fly-in, all EFRO ATC units will be manned between 18.00 - 23.00 UTC.


Arrivals

  • Holdings are expected over the TMA entrypoints (LEKRA, UVIKO, BABUX, KEKOX, NASUL, VAPOT) Important: The holdings cannot be found on the charts, see picture below!
  • Plan your descent to be at FL100 abem EFRO TMA boundary.
  • Expect radar vectors from Rovaniemi APP (129.9 MHz) when entering EFRO TMA.

  • Preferred runway for landings is 21.

  • Note that in default FS2002, FS2004 and FSX scenery the ILS frequency is 109.1 MHz - different from the new frequency 111.7 MHz in charts (new freq).


Departures

  • EFRO is a joint military / civil airport. The civil apron with passenger terminal is located on the southside of the airport (see picture).

  • Contact initially EFRO_GND for ATC clearance, startup and taxi instructions on 118.525 MHz.

  • All departing flights from EFRO may expect a standard clearance (such as "runway heading and climb 4000 ft" - or similar), and radar vectoring after departure. Runway 21 is preferred for departures and arrivals.

  • After departure contact EFRO_APP on 129.9 MHz.
